This is section 14 of the Israel National Trail. The trail begins at Hadera West railway station. From there, we’ll make our way to one of the most beautiful places in the country at the end of winter and start of spring – HaSharon Park. The trail cuts south across Hadera Forest an enters the open park that features Mount Tabor oak trees, low level dunes, an abundance of greenery and a large winter pool, in between the hills to Highway 4. From the winter pool, the trail heads south, through the Emek Hefer industrial zone up to where it meets Alexander River at the Turtle Bridge – a great place to see giant softshell turtles. The last stretch of the trail is nice and easy, west along the Alexander River. Just before reaching Highway 2, we recommend heading slightly north to the beautiful viewpoint at the Samara Ruins. The trail passes below the large Highway 2 bridge, continuing to the estuary to another short walk along the sandy beach to the Beit Yanai Beach and the nearby interchange – where you’ll find the bus station. In order to make this a round trip, remember to take into account the amount of time it’ll take you to make the return journey and ensure that you come prepared with enough food and drink.

The story of Heftziba Farm is the story of an agricultural ‘Hachshara’ farm dating back to 1906, which was a symbol of success in making the desert bloom. The farmland is included in the Hadera lands that were purchased by Yehoshua Hankin. The Neta’im Association later bought the land in order to provide jobs for Jewish workers and to establish new settlements in Israel. The farm was planted with orchards and almond and olive groves that were watered from the river. During the restorations, the pump house, farm manager’s house and worker’s street were reconstructed. During winter, the spectacular phenomenon of thousands of cormorants wintering on the farm can be seen.
- Fires are not allowed on the land.
